Countertop buyer's guide
Taj Mahal quartzite countertops: specify the right slab before fabrication
How importers, fabricators and project buyers can select natural Taj Mahal quartzite slabs for kitchen countertops, islands and full-height splashbacks.
For a Taj Mahal quartzite countertop, the most important buying decision is not a retail square-foot number. It is the combination of the actual bundle, slab thickness, finished size, vein direction and fabrication plan. Natural Taj Mahal quartzite is quarried in Brazil and varies from slab to slab, so a professional order should be approved against current bundle photos rather than a generic sample image.
Our natural Taj Mahal quartzite slabs are finished in 2cm and 3cm, with polished, honed or leathered surfaces. If a project needs more predictable colour and repeatable formats, compare it with engineered Taj Mahal quartz before confirming the material schedule.
Start with the countertop application
A kitchen island, perimeter counter, vanity and wall application do not use the slab in the same way. A large island may need a continuous visual field, a book-matched pair or a waterfall edge. A vanity may prioritize easy handling and a smaller cut plan. Ask the fabricator for a scaled layout before you approve the bundle; the usable yield depends on the actual slab and the required cut-outs.
| Specification | Natural Taj Mahal quartzite | Why it matters for countertops |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Natural quartzite from Brazil | Veining, fissures and background vary by bundle; approve actual slabs. |
| Approximate slab size | 3300 x 2000 mm, confirmed per bundle | Check island length, backsplash height and seam positions against a cut plan. |
| Thickness | 20 mm (2cm) or 30 mm (3cm) | Changes edge construction, handling weight and container loading. |
| Surface finish | Polished, honed or leathered | Changes reflectivity, texture and the care brief for the installed top. |
| Minimum order | 1 x 20ft container; mixed orders can be planned | Useful for importers combining natural quartzite with engineered quartz. |
2cm or 3cm for a kitchen island?
Both thicknesses are available, but they create different fabrication details. A 3cm slab gives a substantial full-thickness edge and is often selected when the design calls for a robust island profile. A 2cm slab reduces weight and can work well when the cabinet or substrate is designed for it; the edge may use a laminated build-up or another agreed detail. The correct choice depends on the cabinet system, overhang, support and local fabrication practice.
Confirm the following before quotation: finished top dimensions, sink and hob cut-outs, overhangs, edge profile, seam preference, backsplash height and whether the installer requires a template. Use the 2cm vs 3cm slab thickness guide to align the material order with the fabrication method.
Vein direction and bundle approval
Taj Mahal quartzite is purchased for its warm white background and natural gold, taupe and grey movement. A single slab can look very different from another slab in the same named material. For an island or waterfall, ask for full-slab photos and a marked layout showing the intended grain direction. If the order includes several bundles, record which slabs are approved for the visible island, perimeter tops and splashbacks.

Natural quartzite or engineered quartz?
Natural quartzite is usually the stronger visual choice when the design depends on one-off movement, depth and a feature island. Engineered Taj Mahal quartz is worth considering for repeat kitchens, hospitality and multi-unit programmes that need consistent colour and jumbo or super jumbo formats. Engineered slabs are available in jumbo 3200 x 1600 mm and super jumbo 3500 x 2000 mm, also in 2cm and 3cm. The decision should be made from the project schedule, not from the name alone; our quartzite vs quartz comparison sets out the practical trade-offs.
Questions to include in a factory quote
- Is the order for natural quartzite, engineered quartz or a mixed container?
- Which thickness, finish and edge profile are required?
- What are the finished island, countertop and backsplash dimensions?
- Do you need full-bundle photographs, video or a marked approval layout?
- Which destination port and trade term should be quoted?
The factory minimum is one 20ft container, with colours, sizes and thicknesses mixable subject to the current loading plan. Production is supported by facilities in Shuitou, China and Rayong, Thailand, with four production lines. Review the Taj Mahal slab catalogue first, then request current availability against your cut list.
